"On the call center side of it, I don't know of anyone other than Casto Travel" using offshore facilities to handle telephone work, said Reynolds. "Amex pulled back. But a lot of them are talking about potentially starting it again. Offshoring has gotten a lot better. Languages are a lot better and there are more choices besides India."

Casto Travel president and COO Marc Casto today told The Beat that while Casto itself is taking calls through its Manila Fulfillment Solutions Inc. facility, six of its external travel management company clients are mainly focused on back-end support. Still, some do push calls there.

"We're working with a number of different TMCs on a host of programs, from fulfillment to data entry to reports and reconciliation," Casto said. "Some have outsourced ARC reporting or after hours [calls] to us--or to help balance loads when they have large-scale groups moving in and out.

"There has been significant interest of late," Casto noted. When it was first launched as Casto Solutions three years ago, the Manila company had 25 employees; that's now up to 35.
