The Resort at Paws Up, Montana
Author: Sherry Barson“Had Lewis & Clark sent a postcard from here, it might have read: Dear President Jefferson, wish you were here…not coming home….thanks for the opportunity”. l & c ”
I did come home, but what a great adventure!
The Resort at Paws Up offers a luxury wilderness experience in Greenough, Montana, about a 40 minute drive from Missoula. Accommodations are in exquisitely appointed (”western-chic”) private homes or luxury tents. Big Timber homes, such as the one in which I was fortunate enough to stay, have contemporary kitchens, fireplaces (or wood burning stoves), double-size walk in showers with two shower heads, jacuzzi bathtubs, heated bathroom floors, enormous private decks & outdoor hot-tubs. No shortage of creature comforts here: satellite TV with large flat screens, high-speed Internet access, and yummy beds with 300 thread-count sheets.
The Resort also has a working ranch!
Paws Up is situated on 37,000 acres that offers 100 miles of trails, 10 miles of the Blackfoot River and 1.5 million acres if the nearby Bob Marshall Wilderness. Since we were there for a short three days, we were only able to participate in a few of the wilderness adventures offered: horseback riding, ATV tour, and hiking.
In winter months they offer: snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, dog-sledding, snowmobiling and downhill skiing (the latter available 35 minutes off-property). In warmer months they offer: swimming, boating, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, even paintball. Paws Up also has a world-class sporting clays course, and legendary fly-fishing. Guests who wish to participate in any of these activities will be led by knowlegeable, fun and friendly expert guides.
In addition to all of that there is Spa Town where one can relax and unwind. It is made up of eleven large tents all located at the edge of a beautiful meadow. Massage treatments are available (and recommended!) We enjoyed the River Rocks Hot Stone Treatment. Paws Up’s Spa Town is an indulgent stop for pampering after a full day of activity. In the winter season massage is also available either at the newly created indoor spa, or in the privacy of your Home.
There are three different dining venues: Pomp, Tank & Trough, and for a more “out west” experience, gourmet outdoor BBQ.
They also offer in-home chef dining where you are catered to in the comfort of your guest home. All the meals are prepared using freshest meats, produce and ingredients from the west.
Paws Up is a fabulous destination resort for families as well as couples. Friendly service is attentive and customized. Weddings, Groups and Corporate events are also welcome. To experience rustic elegance, I recommend a stay at Paws Up.
